Indian Railways is one of the largest rail network in the world carrying millions of people covering miles of journey. Several types of trains like Shatabdi, rajdhani expresss, superfast express, garib rath, etc with several class of reservation like general, ac tier 1, ac tier 2, ac tier 3, etc run daily connecting distant and remote places with mainstream cities. If you travel in Indian rails, you’ll feel as if the life of country goes on in the trains, the crowd, the chattering, the commotion, the haste, hustle, luggage, smiles – all abound.

Indian Railways has progressed over time and now travelers can make reservations online without even going to railway station. Making railways reservation online has several advantages like no wait queues, easy and fast payment, convenient train enquiry, checking pnr status, planning travel, etc. For the purpose of online booking, the government has launched irctc website where with an account, one can make railway reservation online easily and can also check Indian railways seat availability.

How to check Indian Railways seat availability ?

• Just go to this website : http://rbs.indianrail.gov.in/dont_Know_Station_Code.html
• In the “From” box, type the name of the station from where you want to depart. It’ll automatically pop suggestions of station name, if you find the right one, just select it.
• In the “To” box, type the name of the station where you want to reach.
• In the “Class” menu, chose the type of class i.e. first class, second class, general, sleeper class.
• Now select journey date i.e. the date on which you want to find Indian railways seat availability.
• Leave all other box/options as they are.
• Click on Get Details button.
• The next screen would take sometime but it would present to you all the available information like the number of trains running on the selected date, their timing, etc.
• Just click on “Get availability” button in front of any train. it’ll show you the reservation status, number of seats available, waiting list if any, etc.
• To find availability for another train, just go back and hit on get availability button again.

Another way is to register on irctc.co.in and then Under plan my travel option, just type “From” and “To” box and select journey date, it’ll show you list of trains, just select any train and it will show you seat availability on that railway for the next seven days.
